Berlin (Germany) and Melbourne (Australia), 19 March, 2026 – ResearchGate, the professional network for researchers, and CSIRO Publishing, Australia's leading science publisher of books, peer-reviewed journals, and science news, have today announced a significant extension of their Journal Home partnership following a successful first year of collaboration.
The expanded agreement now includes over half of the journals in CSIRO Publishing’s portfolio, spanning both hybrid and fully open access (OA) titles across environment, ecology, and health sciences. Over the past year, participating journals have seen strong growth in international readership, authorship and engagement, connecting with highly targeted researchers across ResearchGate’s global community of more than 25 million members.
Through Journal Home, CSIRO Publishing journals benefit from:
Building on this momentum, all participating journals will now activate the Open Access Agreement Upgrade (OAAU), designed to increase awareness and uptake of open access through CSIRO Publishing’s institutional agreements.
The OAAU will:
“Journal Home has significantly strengthened the international reach and engagement of our journals, ensuring researchers can easily discover and interact with our content,” said Julia Ballard, Director of CSIRO Publishing. “Open access is central to our mission as Australia’s national science publisher. With the addition of the Open Access Agreement Upgrade across all participating journals, we will now accelerate how we inform authors about available funding, grow open access participation, and better serve our global author community.”
“Journal Home is delivering increased usage and engagement for CSIRO Publishing’s journals in a clearly measurable way. The addition of the OAAU introduces a strategic lever for them that makes funding eligibility visible to relevant researchers at the right moment in their research cycle,” said Mathias Astell, VP of Commercial Product at ResearchGate. “By connecting researchers with clear pathways to publish open access, the OAAU supports CSIRO Publishing’s commitment to accessible science that drives greater global participation.”
