ResearchGate and Rockefeller University Press expand Journal Home partnership with Open Access Agreement Update

December 5, 2024

Berlin (Germany) and New York (US) December 5th, 2024 – ResearchGate, the professional network for researchers, and Rockefeller University Press (RUP), a department of Rockefeller University that publishes groundbreaking research in the life sciences and biomedicine, have completed a successful Journal Home pilot and will now expand their Journal Home partnership with the activation of the Open Access Agreement Upgrade (OAAU) across RUP’s complete journal portfolio.

The OAAU for Journal Home is an innovative new feature facilitating the communication of highly relevant and timely open access publishing opportunities to researchers covered by RUP’s read-and-publish agreements with institutions and consortia. With the OAAU activated, RUP now has the ability to seamlessly communicate with researchers about their eligibility to receive funding support for open access through their institution. RUP’s Journal of Cell Biology, Journal of Experimental Medicine, and Journal of General Physiology will now benefit from:

  • A highly developed understanding of relevant researcher communities on ResearchGate and their eligibility for RUP’s read-and-publish agreements, based on publishing history and areas of research.
  • Targeted messaging for RUP journals that is relevant and individualised to each researcher.
  • Continuous visibility of the read-and-publish messaging while researchers interact on ResearchGate, whether reading an article, visiting a journal profile, searching in their feed, or updating their own profile.
  • Unparalleled ability to measure the volume and effectiveness of messaging about their agreements at each stage of the publishing journey — from readership all the way through to authorship — with sophisticated reporting and analytics.

RUP is already seeing strong results through the OAAU, continuously reaching researchers in more than 80% of the institutions covered by their agreements within the first three months. Their aim is to further drive forward open access adoption within healthcare science by continuing to present relevant researchers from institutions that RUP has agreements with clear opportunities to publish open access.

“Our Journal Home partnership with ResearchGate has helped us reach new readers and authors worldwide, and the OAAU is the next stage in engaging with these communities and those covered by our read-and-publish deals,” said Miguel Peralta, RUP Institutional Sales Manager. “We are excited to see how the OAAU enables us to fuel open access growth going forward.”

"Rockefeller University Press’ commitment to continuous innovation in scientific publishing is a major contributor to their sustained quality and integrity. The OAAU will enable RUP to build open research output by equipping researchers with invaluable information about their eligibility for funding” said Sören Hofmayer, co-founder and Chief Strategy Officer at ResearchGate. “This is a powerful way to support their mission to disseminate research as widely as possible for the benefit of all.”
