ResearchGate and SPIE announce Journal Home partnership for full open access portfolio coverage

December 16, 2025

Berlin (Germany) and Washington (USA), December 16, 2025 – ResearchGate, the professional network for researchers, and SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, today announced a new Journal Home partnership that will cover all of SPIE’s open access (OA) portfolio, increasing both high-quality authorship and readership for their OA titles.

SPIE Journals are dedicated to advancing the science and application of light and light-based technologies. The SPIE titles included in the Journal Home partnership will now benefit from increased visibility with ResearchGate’s 25+ million researcher members and leverage unique platform features, including:

  • Increased engagement of authors throughout their research cycle, encouraging high-quality submissions and expanding SPIE’s global network of researchers.
  • Seamless sharing of all full-text articles on the ResearchGate platform, driving higher visibility and readership through personalized feeds, targeted notifications, and dedicated Journal Profiles.
  • Automatic article uploads to author profiles, unique impact metrics, and new tools for direct reader interaction, creating a smoother publishing journey and inspiring long-term author loyalty.
  • High-visibility logo placement across associated article pages, strengthening brand recognition and improving discoverability of SPIE content.

“Through Journal Home, SPIE authors gain expanded services and enhanced global visibility, supporting our commitment to deliver an exceptional, author-focused experience,” said Patrick Franzen, Senior Director, Publications, SPIE. “Above all, this partnership strengthens our ability to serve a vibrant international community of authors and readers advancing the science and application of optics and photonics.”

“We are honored to welcome such a prestigious publisher to Journal Home to improve accessibility and further SPIE’s open access mission” said Sebastian Darr, Global Head of Business Development at ResearchGate. “This collaboration will ultimately strengthen visibility, expand reach, and inspire meaningful connections with top-tier authors.”
