ResearchGate and De Gruyter Brill expand Journal Home partnership to 100 journals, adding Open Access Agreement and Community Engagement upgrades

April 30, 2026

Berlin (Germany), 30 April, 2026 – ResearchGate, the professional network for researchers, and De Gruyter Brill, a global leader in humanities publishing and beyond, today announced a further significant expansion of their Journal Home partnership. The agreement now covers 100 journals spanning a broad range of De Gruyter Brill's combined portfolios, including open access, subscription, and hybrid journals. The partnership also expands the Open Access Agreement Upgrade (OAAU) to all 100 journals, and includes the activation of the recently launched Community Engagement Upgrade (CEU) for all 100 journals.

Journals participating in the Journal Home partnership will have their content automatically uploaded to ResearchGate, and will benefit from the unique features of ResearchGate’s Journal Home. This includes dedicated journal profiles, clear visibility of journal communities and enhanced branding across the platform. New articles from participating journals will be made available to ResearchGate’s 25 million-plus researcher members upon publication.

The announcement follows De Gruyter Brill’s expanded partnership in 2025, building on the increased visibility and usage and additional authorship they saw for participating journals. By expanding access to the OAAU, all participating journals will continue to present to eligible researchers the institutional Open Access (OA) funding they have available through De Gruyter Brill’s agreements with their institutions – helping to lower barriers to OA participation across STM and the humanities.

The further addition of the CEU introduces powerful new engagement opportunities for De Gruyter Brill's editors and journal teams, supporting their mission to disseminate knowledge and share transformative ideas. The upgrade gives editors:

  • Rich insights: Access to unique demographic data about their journal communities, allowing them to understand exactly who is reading, citing, recommending, and following their journals, and enabling more targeted engagement with those groups.
  • Targeted content distribution: The ability to highlight and feature leading articles to highly relevant readers across ResearchGate's network of 25 million+ researcher members using the 'Editor Picks' functionality.
  • Enhanced editor experience: New tools to activate their networks, spotlight key research, and strengthen their journals' reputation and influence with authors.

"Expanding our Journal Home partnership to 100 journals is a significant step in supporting our goal of connecting researchers with the articles, journals and communities they need to be successful in their research," Zita Jeukendrup, VP of Marketing at De Gruyter Brill, commented. "The addition of the Community Engagement Upgrade gives our editors powerful new ways to understand and engage with their journals’ authors and readers, while the Open Access Agreement Upgrade continues to remove barriers to OA participation for our communities."

"De Gruyter Brill has consistently shown a willingness to innovate in how research is shared and discovered, and this expanded partnership is a testament to that ambition," said Mathias Astell, VP of Commercial Products, ResearchGate . "With 100 journals now benefiting from Journal Home's full suite of features – including our new Community Engagement Upgrade – we are giving editors and journal teams the insights and tools to further reach highly relevant readers and authors and strengthen the impact of their publications across our global network."
